"How do we transition from controller to club gear?" I hear it ALL the time! And for those that aren't familiar with CDJ's or other gear that has everything separate, the thought of failure is daunting.

In saying this, it also seems to be a BIG question for DJ trainers from those who are running hardware that relies on using Rekordbox software. I totally agree that stacked waveforms does not build good habits for CDJ training. Perhaps everyone ends up getting a little too complacent with the layered waveforms which is understandable considering that you can make mixes near on perfect with far less effort and even guess work when it comes to mixing tracks your not familiar with BUT, and I'm sure they'll be a lot of DJ's agree with this and that is that "it gets boring!!" And in a sense, kind of unprofessional. Have always wondered why it isn't an option, along with many ppl I know.

We need more demand for this then don't we!! Hopefully the Pioneer DJ team takes this into consideration, as the lack of detail in rekordbox Performance mode waveforms is an oft-cited disadvantage VS other setups (Traktor, CDJs).

If possible, you could also add a toggle to turn on/off Nexus style phase meters at the top of each waveform to help with visual beatmatching if wanted too, further unifying the design language of Pioneer's different setups, like the DDJ controller series is already doing. This is one area that Traktor has an advantage over rekordbox, as Traktor Pro 3 now has an option to change between their classic side-by-side view and parallel waveforms too! By adding this Pioneer would another step ahead of the game.ģ) It would emulate the same visual set up as having CDJs with non-stacked waveforms, which would be very beneficial for people trying to practice the CDJ club setup and not build bad habits by visually relying on stacked / parallel waveforms. The detail is already there as we can see in RB's Export mode, which is helpful for seeing hi-hats, kick drums, beat grid alignment, etc. Even a 4-deck layout would be feasible by further halving each space.Ģ) Waveforms would be MUCH more detailed / useful like they are in the Export mode's 1 Player view. I have done a mockup in Paint by copying the waveforms from Export mode's 1 Player view:ġ) As you can see, it would take up the same amount of space, the allotted area for waveforms would stay the same, except the real estate would be divided vertically instead of horizontally, just like the preview waveforms and hot cues/BPM platter below. Watch out for our review of Traktor Pro 3.1 soon.Ĭheck out the photo gallery below. It would be extremely helpful if there were an option in Performance mode to change the view layout to side-by-side waveforms, instead of the stacked parallel waveforms, which are helpful for beatmatching but are not very detailed and do not build good habits for CDJ training. Standalone mixer mode extends the feature set of the Traktor Kontrol S4 Mk3, and is a welcome addition.

You also get two different parallel views: Parallel Full and Parallel Slim, the latter showing smaller waveforms. For years, Traktor users have been asking for the ability to change the way waveforms look in the user interface, and Native Instruments has finally made it possible (you can even stack the waveforms for Stem decks).

We spotted this new Traktor update at the NAMM Show last month, and we liked what we saw. Other updates include single deck view for track preparation and playlist making, giving you more screen real estate for adding hot cues to tracks and adjusting beatgrids, along with the ability to custom map the Traktor Kontrol D2 and Traktor Kontrol S8 controllers. Traktor Pro 3.1 also brings a firmware update that adds standalone mixer capability to the Traktor Kontrol S4 Mk3, letting you spin with connected turntables or media players without a laptop. Previously, you could only view waveforms above each Traktor deck, which are separate. Now at version 3.1, it includes the ability to view deck waveforms in a parallel, stacked manner at the top of the screen, similar to what you’d find on other DJ apps like Serato DJ, Virtual DJ and Rekordbox DJ. Native Instruments just released the latest update to Traktor Pro 3.
